McCall's Zena - SOLD
Zena, a pup from Suzie's June 2003 litter, a cross with Butcher's Augtu, is a highly energetic and athletic pup. She continually amazes me.
On our walks through the pastures with her mom Suzie, she will run up ahead and
then turn
around and give me a look to see if I'm okay with her doings.
Many times she'll just run on back to me to touch base and then off again to go
up ahead. She and Suzie will often jump rabbits which takes them on a
chase. Once when the chase lead the dogs to a small gully where the rabbit
found a hole, Zena looked up and didn't see me. Here she came over the
hill bounding back to check in. In fact, bounding is one of Zena's main
modes of locomotion. I often see her take five huge bounds through the
isle of the shed row to reach the end and into the paddock. Zena is very
athletic. If an obstacle is in her path she just jumps it. There is
a downed piece of four foot fence that lays flat on the ground. We cross
it to gain access to the pasture. Zena astonished me w
hen she cleared the
four foot stretch clean. Also one of her favorite things is row of 75
round hay bales. She hurls her self up on top of the bales and runs up and
down the row - just so pleased with herself! After our walks and she has
wound down, I will look down to find her by my side matching my gait. Zena
is very obedient. In the morning when its time for me to leave for work,
Zena knows it's time to go to her outside kennel. She runs ahead and jumps
through the door and sits back to wait for me to come and close the door.
She is very good with "come". I have a short three burst whistle to
indicate come. When ever I give this command she runs as fast as she can.
Upon reaching me, she plops down on her haunches and waits for a pat on the
head. She is very good with "sit" and "no". We have a few horses here on
the farm. These horses are dog trained so aren't ones to be spooked by a
blaze of dog firing past them. She is curious about these huge creatures
and approaches them to test her effectiveness. Since I didn't ask her to
work, I call her off and she immediately responds and moves away to find some
other adventure. She never approaches the horses on her brief bouts
of unsupervision or undersupervision. In the house she sleeps or quietly plays
with her toys, but she prefers to lay on her rug on the porch - even at freezing
temperatures - to keep an eye and ear on the world.
